Collets

Regular replacement of collets should be considered part of good machine maintenance as the condition of your collets will directly reflect upon the tool life as well as quality of finish on your product. Collets that are worn and dirty will create vibration during the cutting process.

CNC Machine Collets

Inspect your cutting tools to see if collet marks are visible on the shank. If so, that is an indication of vibration occurring during the cut and it is time to replace your collet. Although, the vibration can also stem from an imbalanced collet nut or tool holder.

Did you know that in addition to the standard collets with a tolerance of 0.5 mm, GUHDO also offers Premium collets with a tolerance of 0.15 mm?!

PCD Tools

DSC_0206

To get an optimal economic result when using tipped tools, it’s most important to have a look at all parameters. The manufactured quality is of utmost importance.

DSC_0129

Certain Criteria are to be considered when purchasing a Polycrystalline Diamond Tool.

  1. Exactly produced tool body, high corrosion protection
  2. Shank, borehole, cone and installation surface must be fine tuned and honed
  3. Rigid packaging for transport
  4. Dimension sheet should have exact CNC data
  5. Balancing quality grade

An all-around tool does not exist. A dealer should provide expertise and give a very specific, exactly for your needs defined, offer. Only doing it this way guarantees a most economic result when using PCD tipped tools.

Clamping Systems

Clamping Systems are a decisive link between a tool and the machine spindle. Tool life and attainable work piece quality, but also safety are significantly influenced by clamping systems.

DSC_0222

Ideally the clamping system should be:

  1. of low weight
  2. of low imbalance
  3. compliant with the norm
  4. made of high quality steel

Clamping technology assumes a key position with regard to machining quality and safety technology. Considering that the purchase of clamping systems is a matter of trust, it is recommendable to rely on products of well known manufacturers and to take detailed advise from sharp tooling experts!

Cutters

The rating of cutters not only depends on superficial quality characteristics but also on the suitable design for the cutter which is very decisive for the respective application. Tools that are economically priced at first sight, can be rather expensive in the application, as they often don’t provide the expected machining quality or they are too detailed or inaccurate in handling.

DSC_0184

  1. Round shape tooling reduces the free running noise.
  2. Balance-borings are visible quality characteristics
  3. Sharp edges produce a finish-surface without grinding
  4. With the correct coating, the performance time can be at least doubled
  5. The thickness of the cutting edge considerably specifies the number of re-grindings.

Always pay attention to form, shape and edge of the cutting tool. Through the use of round shape tools, one can reduce the noise level. Selecting the proper cutting material, and/or coating material will almost always lead to an economically improved tool.
