GDP|GUHDO has introduced a special priced CNC tooling starter package which provides a substantial savings on highest quality tooling.  This kit includes 8 HSK tool holders (choice of style based on collet style preferred (SYOZ, ER40 or ER32) and  corresponding 8 collets (choice of sizes).  In addition, the customer can select 14 solid carbide bits (4 downcut and 10 compression styles) and 10 drill bits based on sizes needed.  This package also includes a tool setup fixture, torque wrench with collet key and a spoil board cutter, which comes mounted on an heat shrink tool holder.  Finally, a box of replacement insert knives for the spoil board cutter are also included.

After receiving feedback from our customers regarding a desire for flexibility to get what is actually needed in a starter package, we customized this tooling package to allow the customer to choose which bits are needed.

Tool Setup Fixture  A tool setup fixture is essential for accurate tool setup and proper tool tightening.  It can be mounted to work bench or table.

Are PCD Blades Right for Your Shop?

Regardless of whether you’re a small to medium sized cabinet shop or a large production facility, if you haven’t considered PCD (polycrystalline diamond) saw blades perhaps now is the time!  Materials such as particle board, MDF, laminates and solid surface are all excellent candidates for diamond saw blades. When comparing Diamond v. Carbide, depending on the machine and the material application, diamond saw blades can outperform carbide by a ratio of 30-50 times!

Over the years, diamond saw blade production has improved tremendously and as an industry, we’ve seen steady prices reductions.  With the multitude of suppliers now offering PCD tooling it’s important for you, the buyer, to do the proper vetting of the individual supplier.  There are many factors to consider when looking at the price of a diamond blade, including the plate and diamond quality, the amount of diamond used, and the cost to service the tool.

Here is an example use case from one of our customers:

A cabinet manufacturer located in Florida and utilizing a Holzma Model 430 beam saw found they were changing their carbide main and scoring blades on a daily basis! At the beginning of 2016, they invested in a 450 mm PCD main and 180 mm PCD scoring saw. The diamond saw blades were put into production on January 4th and were removed from production for sharpening on April 7th, 69 production days! Needless to say, a second diamond set was ordered.

From replacing carbide saw blades on a daily basis to running 69 production days on one diamond set! Considering the cost of a diamond set can be 10 – 12 times the price of a carbide set it leaves little doubt that in this case, the initial cost factor is far outweighed by the extended tool life most certainly justifying the investment. In addition, this doesn’t take into consideration the cost of having to maintain the huge number of carbide sets needed for rotation purposes or the machine downtime savings created. When deciding whether to switch, be conservative in your cost analysis and base your justification on the diamond tool lasting 25x longer than carbide.  You won’t be disappointed!

Aggregate heads expand the capabilities of your CNC router.  An aggregate head attaches to the router spindle in similar fashion as your tool holder does.  An intricate inside mechanism converts the spindle output of the aggregate head to perform applications such as horizontal, or angled cutting and drilling.   If you have a CNC machine and need horizontal or angled cutting ability, our selection of precision German-made aggregate heads will give you options for sawing, routing, drilling, planing and more.

The Series 4097 UNITEC Round-Over Reversible Insert Bit is designed for use on portable routers and provides savings on sharpening cost and profile variation (after sharpening) of carbide-tipped router bits.  The tool features 1/4″ shank or 1/2, depending on radius required.   It provides a consistent cutting diameter for round overs and quarter round ovolo profiles.   Each tool body takes two solid carbide inserts.   Radius sizes available range from 2mm (approx 3/32″) to 10mm (just over 3/8″).

With reversible T.C. tips profiled on both sides, the UNITEC bit is designed with shear angles on both the bottom and periphery of the tool, providing excellent finish.

The Unitec design is also available as a customizable tool body that can be profiled for any special trim profile that falls with the parameters of 10mm width x 10mm depth.  The blank tool body can be adapted for use on various operations including rebates, grooving, beading, coving and beveling. The micro-grain carbide inserts provide extended tool life and are profiled double sided, which makes them very economical. Changing profiles is quick and easy.
